Southern Province Huye District Maraba Sector, Rwanda
Introduced by German missionaries in the early 1900s, coffee in Rwanda was further developed with the introduction of the Bourbon Mayaguez varietal in the 1950s. Grown on terraced hills in volcanic soil, this coffee is cultivated by over 600 small landowners. It is processed at the Gift Coffee Company washing station, which serves both the Gift coffee farms and the local farming community, providing expertise in coffee processing. The coffee undergoes a fully washed process using water from Mount Huye, followed by a month-long drying period on raised African beds.
